The programme is open to anyone from a black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds as well as disabled people, working in clinical and non-clinical roles. Often these colleagues don’t feel like they have the same opportunities and support, nor access to development opportunities and funding, for career progression towards more senior levels.
There was lots of praise for the 21 graduates from the second cohort we have had come through this programme as they presented their service improvement projects over two online sessions. The projects were a result of six months of hard work and dedication learning new skills and knowledge to help with their career progression.
The group is superbly coached and supported by Valerie Brown-Beckford, ICDP programme lead and training manager with the Hertfordshire and West Essex Health and Care Academy.
Over the two days, participants heard from two guest speakers. On day one, Chris Badger, Executive Director of Adult Care Services at Hertfordshire County Council, shared his leadership journey.
On day two, our chief executive officer Dr Jane Halpin shared her top tips for success, saying: “Be curious with a willingness to challenge yourself and find out how other people do things.” Jane then presented virtual certificates to the group and said: “Congratulations for completing the programme. I hope it has been a valuable experience and all the very best of luck for the future, well done!”
The ICDP brings together health and social care colleagues to support them in their career aspirations and open up more opportunities for their future. They look at topics such as leadership, diversity, career planning and more.
Valerie said: “What an incredible six-month journey they’ve had with their growth, development, learning and sharing on the programme. This certainly now calls for a celebration of commitment, engagement, and impressive achievements with their innovative service improvement projects. Their drive and ambition to succeed is truly inspiring. I know their hard work will pay off in the long run!”
